Ethiraj College for Women has made a formidable impression in the field of Sports. The academic year 2014-15 brought in a lot of laurels to the college. Our students participated in Nationals, State and District level tournaments and won several prizes.

In 2014-15 Ethiraj College was declared the Runner-up by the University of Madras and was awarded the Dr. Sivanthi Adityan Trophy for the maximum number of University Blues. In the A.L. Mudaliar Athletic Meet Ethiraj College for Women was awarded the second place. Our College is especially proud of former students, Dipika Pallikal and Joshna Chinnappa who represented India and won the title in the Women Doubles Squash in the Commonwealth Games.

Inter-Department Tournaments were organized for both Aided and Self Supporting students. The Rachal Paranjothi Open State level Chess Tournament was conducted by the TN Chess Association in Ethiraj College.

ESPO Tournaments were conducted on 19th March to 20th March 2015 for the students of various colleges in the city, teaching staff and non-teaching staff also of various colleges. The Thiru. Justice M.N. Moorthy Inter-Collegiate Tennis Tournament was conducted on 19th March 2015. Ethiraj College was the Winner and Chellammal College was the Runner-up.

The Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu has established a Joint Sports Development Scheme in our College through which nine football players, two athletes, five volley ball and three hockey players are awarded Rs. 2500/- for Nationals level performance per annum towards their diet and kit.

M.R.F. Sports scholarships were awarded to outstanding sports students. The college also provided lodging and boarding for the National level players.

The Physical Education Department of the College offers Yoga, Aerobics and Karate as credit courses. Ethiraj College for Women is proud of its athletes who have worked tirelessly and carved a niche for themselves in the field of sports. The athletes who have contributed to the glory of the college by winning in the A.L. Mudaliar Athletic Meet are: R.Vaishnavi III B.A. History secured the 1st place in the 400 mts Hurdles and the 2nd place in the 4x400 mts Relay. C. Depika I B.A. Economics secured the 1st place in the 5000 mts running and 3rd place 5 km walk. P.S. Vinodhini III B.A. English secured the 1st place in the 200 mts and the 2nd place in 100 mts. B. Dhanalakshmi II B.Com secured the 2nd place in the 200 mts and the 3rd place in the 100 mts. P.S. Vinodhini, B. Dhanalaksahmi, R. Vaishnavi and Vishwa Priya II B. Com represented the University of Madras for the All India Inter University athletic Meet. The Athletes received a cash award from Mr. Namasivayam, Director, New Link Overseas Finance Ltd.

The College basketball, volley ball, kho-kho, cricket football , badminton, hockey, kabbadi, tennis, table tennis, throw ball and net ball teams have won in several tournaments and matches at the university, state and national levels and have made us proud. Swimming, fencing and cross country running are other areas in which our students have excelled.

A. Pascamary M.Phil Economics, K. Kathir Jothi M.Phil Economics and Melodi Dorcas I M.A. Tamil have been selected for the University of Madras in Rowing.

Other Sports activities include Karate, Aerobics and Band classes with qualified Coaches for the credit courses. The College Band has enthusiastically participated in programmes organized by the College. The College Band has also won appreciation for their performances in events organized by other well known institutions.
