DEPARTMENT OF BANK MANAGEMENT & POST GRADUATE OF BANKING AND INSURANCE MANAGEMENT
The Department has a pride history which goes back to its inception in the year 1994 with a sanctioned strength of 50 students. The Course has a peak demand and so the next batch was started in 1996 with 70 students per batch.
The Post Graduate course M.Com (Banking and Insurance Management) was started during the academic year 2013-2014. This Course is introduced for the first time in the University of Madras. The total student strength of the Department is now 500 with Staff strength of 13.
The course integrates classroom lectures with workshops, seminars and field work. One month bank internship for the final year undergraduate students and second year post graduate students is the major highlight of the curriculum. The curriculum lays emphasis on international banking which provides an exposure to students in cross border financing and international project financing in multi-currencies. The significant synergy between banking and insurance has necessitated the introduction of fundamentals of bancassurance model in the curriculum. BCom Bank Management enables students to pursue professional courses like MBA, MCA, CWA , CA etc. The PG students can take up NET and SLET exams other than a career in banking and insurance sector.
The department hones the life skills of the students through the conduct of various competitions including inter collegiate competitions during BANCO – the annual department Association celebration. The department conducts certificate course for the final year UG students on Insurance Marketing and Risk Management.
