National Cadet Corps (NCC)

 

The Ethiraj College NCC Company organised the “NCC Orientation Programme” for the First Year students on 24th June 2014. It aimed at highlighting the benefits of joining NCC and the achievements of our cadets. The sessions were held for both aided and self-supporting streams. The presence of Lt.Col. T.J Zacharia, Sena Medal, Commanding Officer,1(TN) Girls Bn NCC and Major. Zahid Hussain, Associate NCC Officer, Infantry Unit, New College added charm to the sessions. In the prestigious National level Thal Sainik camp held at New Delhi, Cpl M. Gothai of III B.sc Mathematics was selected to represent Tamilnadu, Puducherry and Andaman Nicobar Directorate.

  • In Para Jumping Camp held at Agra, Cqms Shanmugam Seema of III B.A Economics, was the only cadet selected to represent Tamilnadu, Puducherry and Andaman Nicobar Directorate.

  • In the prestigious Republic Day Camp held at New Delhi 2014, Suo Aarathy R .Lakshmi of III B.sc Psychology performed in the Cultural Program representing Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Andaman Nicobar Directorate.

  • At the D.G Vaishnav College of Arts and Science Sgt Krupa Lakshmi of II B.Com CS, was awarded Rs. 500 worth cash prize for her paper presentation on the topic “Role of Youth in Nation Building” which was held in honour of Swami Vivekananda’s 150th birthday.

  • NCC Company of Ethiraj College celebrated the NCC Day in collaboration with 1(TN) Girls Bn NCC on 24th November 2014 in the college with many high ranked officers gracing the joy filled event.

  • In the prestigious National level Thal Sainik camp held at New Delhi, L/cpl S. Ramyashree of II B.SC Mathematics, was selected to represent Tamilnadu, Puducherry and Andaman Nicobar Directorate.

  • In the State level Thal Sainik Inter Group Competition, L/cpl K. Priyanka of II B.A. Economics and Sgt M. Anandheeswari of II BBA were selected to represent Chennai.

  • In the State Level Inter Group Competition for the prestigious Republic Day Parade selection, Sgt S.Krupa Lakshmi of II B.Com CS was selected to represent Chennai.

  • SUO N. Arshiya Begum of II B.A English Literature was selected for the Republic Day Camp 2014 and Prime Minister’s Rally held at New Delhi in January 2014. She was awarded by the Director General NCC as the “Best Master of Ceremony”. She was selected for the Youth Exchange Program as one of the top 20 cadets of India, and the only girl cadet (senior wing) from Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Andaman Nicobar Directorate as the “Youth Ambassador” to Singapore, at the International Cadet Exchange Program (20th November to 29th November 2014).

  • National Integration Camp at Dhimapur Uttaranchal, Sgt M.Anandeeswari II BBA and L/cpl K.Priyanka II BA Economics were selected to represent Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Andaman Nicobar Directorate.

  • Ethiraj College NCC cadets participated in ‘CADO FIESTA’, the Inter Collegiate NCC Competition held at the DR. Ambedkar Law University on February 2014, competing with 17 other colleges including Men’s Colleges and won the Overall Championship and Overall Banners in the various events conducted .

› Silver medal in Guard of Honour.  Silver medal in Cross Country.

› Silver medal in Group Dance

› Bronze medal in Best Cadet.

  • Ethiraj College NCC cadets also participated in ‘CADO GREEN’, the Inter Collegiate NCC competition held at Pachaiappas College on February 2014, competing with 18 other colleges including Men’s Colleges and won the Overall Championship and Overall Banner in the various events conducted.

The Ethiraj College NCC has organised various social activities such as

  •  The NCC team of Ethiraj College for Women in association with Youth EXNORA International and team SWM Chennai Corporation on 14 December 2013, conducted the Environmental Conference towards greener and cleaner Chennai at Ethiraj College, where the Mayor of Chennai Thiru Saidai Duraisamy, Thiru T.Anand I.A.S, Thiru P.Arasukannan, Thiru T.C.Gopalakrishnan, Thiru A.R.Venkatesan, Tmt.Latha Dubey and the Principal Of Ethiraj College Tmt. Jothi Kumaravel addressed the gathering.

Social service activities  

Rally against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.

As a part of its commitment to social services, Ethiraj College NCC Company has taken the initiative to conduct a rally on 26th June 2014.Its objective was to raise social awareness on the dangers of drug use. The rally was kick started at Ethiraj College for Women by the Chief Guests, Director S.M. Vasanth and RJ Giri, along with the Principal of the college, Dr.A.Nirmala and Vice Principal Dr. K.Manimegalai. The Associate NCC Officer, Capt. R.Shanthini was the guiding force behind this endeavour. The rally saw a wide range participation of various colleges and schools.


Traffic Controlling

Ethiraj College NCC Company has conducted a ‘TRAFFIC CONTROL TRAINING’ Programme on July 14th and July 15th of 2014.The gathering was addressed by Sub Inspector P. Elavarasan Kennedy and Constable Vasudevan. The students were enlightened on road safety and were trained to show the traffic signals. The Department of Commerce joined hands with the cadets to meet this end. The cadets and the students controlled the peak hour traffic in the Ethiraj Salai from 16th July to 23rd July of 2014.

Breast Feeding Awareness Programme

The National Cadet Corps took pride in extending its role by participating in the Breast Feeding Awareness Programme in collaboration with other extension activity clubs of the college on August 6th of 2014

Independence Day Celebration at the Secretariat

The Independence Day “Flag Salute” in the Secretariat at Fort St. George, in the esteemed presence of Honourable Chief Minister Selvi. J. Jayalalithaa was witnessed by the cadets of Ethiraj College on August 15th of 2014.

School Of Democracy

The National Cadet Corps of Ethiraj College organised a seminar on the “School Of Democracy- Inculcating The Rights And Duties Of A Citizen”. Guest lecturer, Mr. Vijay Anand, President of the ‘5th Pillar’ gave an eye opening speech to the august gathering. The ‘Zero Rupee Note’ issued to the cadets and the students was an initiative taken to speak against corruption.
